Technical basis
The complete examination system includes the wall screen, remote control console and headrest with integrated red and green goggles. The fixed points are at 10°, 20°, 30° and 40° from the primary position of gaze, marked by light guides with red or green lights.
The remote control makes work considerably easier. The ophthalmologist puts a sheet of the documentation chart onto the remote control. This illuminates only the field corresponding to the relevant step of the test. Because the documentation chart and remote control form a functional unit several directions of gaze can be tested relatively rapidly and represented graphically.
A control device for the position of the head is integrated electronically into the system. Using a hair band the ophthalmologist affixes to the patient‘s head a small laser projector whose beam of light he directs in the desired position onto a sensor on the upper edge of the screen. The electric circuit for the LEDs is interrupted as soon as the head is moved and the light no longer falls onto the sensor.
The system creates the preconditions for short examination times, makes performing the examination straightforward, produces accurate results and excludes operating errors.
